Turkish ministry in talks to produce domestic cars

The Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology of Turkey is negotiating with a number of companies that can participate in the creation of domestic cars, the Turkish media reported, Aug. 21.

Reportedly, negotiations are currently underway with such companies as Fiba, Karsan, Kale, Sanko, Koc, BMC and Vestel.

According to the reports, it is expected that the mass production of the domestic Turkish cars will start by the end of 2019.

It was previously reported that, Turkey has obtained a license from Saab, to manufacture a car based on the model 9-3.

Turkish domestic cars, which are planned to be created on the basis of the Saab 9-3 model, will be produced with a variety of engines and in several body types.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in automotive production. Models of Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are currently assembled in Turkey. Moreover, Turkey manufactures local brands of buses, such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
