Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan intend to make a breakthrough in terms of financial cooperation, as well as the opening of correspondent accounts in both countries’ banks freely, Kyrgyz Minister of Economy Artem Novikov said.

Novikov made the remarks at the trade and economic session of the two countries in Tashkent Dec. 13.

"Good consultations on the financial cooperation issues were held yesterday,” he said. “We reached preliminary agreements. According to the agreements, correspondent accounts will be opened freely between our banks.”

The trade and economic session is being held within Kyrgyz President Sooranbay Jeenbekov’s official visit to Uzbekistan.

"This is the second foreign visit of the president, which is aimed at intensifying and strengthening our trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties with Uzbekistan,” Novikov said.

Novikov added that the key issue in the trade and economic relations of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is to jointly compete and master the markets of third countries, using the mutual internal potential of the two countries.

"Mutually complementing each other in many areas, we can bring our trade turnover volume up to $500 million in the coming years and greatly increase the export opportunities of our countries," Novikov said.

The minister also stressed that the Kyrgyz entrepreneurs have something to offer to the Uzbek market.

"We have a great potential in exporting such products as honey, potatoes, onions, dairy and meat products, which are in demand in Europe, China,” he said.

The minister also stressed the great potential in the coal industry, in which the establishment of joint ventures will be a significant incentive for the promotion of products and the development of the economic potential of the two countries.
