Turkey discloses date of launching new electric railways in Ankara

The launch of new electric train lines in Ankara is scheduled for April 12, the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend on April 10.

The ministry noted that with the opening of new electric railway lines in Ankara, the passenger traffic will reach 520,000 people daily.

"A railway station has also been built within the project in Ankara," the ministry said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other officials will take part in the opening ceremony of new routes, according to the ministry.

Electric train lines in Ankara were commissioned in 1972. The total length of electric railways in Ankara is 215 kilometers.

In Istanbul, a new electric railway is expected to be launched in mid-2018.
