The World Bank (WB) will study the pilot project on mandatory health insurance in Azerbaijan, the WB local office told Trend on May 1.

A WB mission headed by senior economist Volkan Cetinkaya will arrive in Baku for this purpose. The mission will not only get acquainted with the progress of the project, but also analyze the project itself and share its own experience in the field of the mandatory health insurance.

Azerbaijan has been implementing a pilot project on mandatory health insurance system since late 2016. Presently, the pilot project covers the country’s Mingachevir city and Yevlakh district.

The WB provides technical assistance for the project.

The basic package of mandatory health insurance includes more than 1,800 medical services - check up, treatment, diagnostic procedures, surgical operations and others.

The treatment of certain diseases, which is carried out under the state programs, was not included in the basic package. However, they are also planned to be included in the basic package in the future.
