Baku, Azerbaijan, June 7

By Anvar Mammadov - Trend:

Azerbaijan lacks qualified agriculture specialists, Deputy Chairperson of Azerbaijan’s Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association Zhale Amirbayova told Trend June 7.

"Azerbaijan is expanding agriculture at an accelerated pace, a large number of agriculture parks are being built in the country," she said. “This sets the task to prepare a large number of professional personnel for the agricultural sector. We need skilled engineers, agriculture technologists, farmers and other personnel.”

She added that presently it is necessary to expand the number of agricultural specialties in Azerbaijan’s educational institutions.

“To do this, first of all, it is necessary to completely reorganize existing vocational institutions, update their technical base,” she said. “In addition, there is the State Agricultural University in Azerbaijan, but it doesn’t prepare all the necessary specialists in the field of agriculture, either. It turns out that we must either send workers to study abroad or attract foreign specialists, which is costly.”

It is planned to commission 15 agriculture parks in Azerbaijan in 2018.
