French Rungis Semmaris company for food and horticultural products will participate in the construction of modern agro logistics centers in Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the information service of the Ministry of Agriculture.
This is stipulated by the framework agreement signed between the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and Rungis Semmaris. Thanks to the participation of the French side, the Ministry of Agriculture plans to implement projects to create and manage a network of eight large agro logistics centers in Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
"All these huge centers of agro logistics will be built on the outskirts of large cities. Their total area will be about 200 hectares with a total capacity of more than three million tons per year. The largest Tashkent agrological center will occupy an area of 70-100 hectares, and the most compact center will be located in the Khorezm region," the Minister of Agriculture Jamshid Khojaev noted.
Khojaev stressed that only wholesalers will be able to trade in these agro logistics complexes. The main goal of the agro logistics centers is to develop the country's export potential, to bring the entire process of preparing agricultural products to enter foreign markets to the international level.
According to preliminary calculations, about 10,000 new jobs will be created on the basis of eight agro logistics centers.
"Sustainable development of the agricultural sector is important for the well-being of citizens, considering the fact that this sector of Uzbekistan’s economy generates a third of the country's GDP and provides jobs for about 3.6 million people," the minister said.
Rungis Semmaris owns the world's largest food and logistics center in the suburbs of Paris with an annual turnover of €9 billion and has excelled in building and organizing efficient wholesale food markets around the world.
