The volume of bony fish caught by Iran in the Caspian Sea decreased by 23 percent since the beginning of the current fishing season in the Caspian Sea (from October 7, 2021 to February 19, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Director-General for Fishing Affairs of Iran Fisheries Organization, Mokhtar Akhondi said, Trend reports referring to the organization's website.

Akhondi said that Iran caught 2,010 tons of bony fish from the Caspian Sea within the mentioned period.

The director general emphasized that the main reason for the decline in fishing is the unfavorable weather conditions in the Caspian Sea.

“About 768 tons of kutum, 238 tons of carp, 953 tons of mullet, 51 tons of other species of fish were caught from the Caspian Sea during the reporting period,” he added.

Akhondi also noted that 916 tons of bony fish were caught in Gilan Province, 953 tons in Mazandaran Province and 141 tons in Golestan Province.

According to him, 117 out of 123 fishing companies have operated in Iran within the mentioned period. Of this, 49 are in Gilan Province, 52 in Mazandaran Province and 16 in Golestan Province.

Iran's bony fishing season in the Caspian Sea begins on October 7 and lasts until April 4.
