BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 14. A total of 928,000 tons of goods worth $560 million were exported through the customs of the East Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran), during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2022), Customs Inspector of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province Leili Orangi told ISNA, Trend reports.

Orangi said that the goods through the province's customs were exported to 87 countries, mainly to Türkiye worth $202 million, Iraq worth $130 million, Afghanistan worth $24 million and Azerbaijan worth $23 million.

The official noted that the exported goods were mainly iron, steel, mining materials, fruits, etc.

“Furthermore, 160,000 tons of goods worth $483 million were imported through the province's customs for 5 months. The imports increased by 19 percent in value and 11 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year,” she added.

According to Orangi, the goods through the province's customs were imported from 44 countries, mainly from Türkiye worth $276 million, the UAE worth $69 million, China worth $33 million, Germany worth $32 million and Georgia worth $11 million.

“The main imported goods were equipment, spare parts, raw materials, tobacco, and so on,” he said.

The customs official also pointed out that the province’s customs revenues for 5 months amounted to 10 trillion rials (about $238 million), which is an increase of 296 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.
