Fuzuli Alakbarov, Azerbaijan Labor and Population Social Protection Minister, said that comparing with the preceding years; the dynamics of the growth of invalidity in Azerbaijan in 2006 has been changed for the better. The Minister said it during the meeting of the Azerbaijan Cabinet of Ministers under the chairmanship of President Ilham Aliyev, which was dedicated to the results of social and economic results of 2006 and forthcoming tasks for 2007.
According to him, if the number of disabled people in Azerbaijan in 2005 equaled 19,988 people, in 2006 this figure decreased in two times.
In the reporting period, 9,467 disabled people passed full rehabilitation. It is by 53% more versus the corresponding figure registered in 2005. The rehabilitation was carried out with 6,800 disabled people.
In addition, measures were taken to provide the disabled veterans of the Karabakh War and the families of the Martyrs. 29 blocks of flats, 194 private houses were built. The number of flats built in 2006 increased to 302. 400 flats are expected to be built to provide the above-mentioned categories of the population with houses in 2007, said Mr. Alakbarov.
