Kazakhstan signs contract on construction of aromatic hydrocarbon complex

Atyrau oil refinery (subsidiary of Trade House KazMunaiGaz JSC) and Chinese company Sinopec Engineering signed the contract for construction of the complex to produce aromatic hydrocarbons at Atyrau refinery on the basis of turnkey in Astana on October 30, managing director on oil refinery in KazMunaiGaz, Daniyar Tiyesov, said at a press-conference on October 30.

"Sum of the contract is worth $1 billion 40 million," Tiyesov said.

He said that two companies, including Japanese and Chinese pretended for construction of the complex.

"Price played a great role here. The Japanese company proposed the contract with financing of more than $3 billion. But the Chinese company first proposed $1 billion 90 million. Then this sum was reduced up to $1 billion 40 million. Moreover, they proposed acceptable terms of financing," Tiyesov said.  

He said that construction of the complex on production of aromatic hydrocarbons will allow producing benzol up to 133,000 tons per year, paraxylene - up to 496,000 tons per year, as well as petrol of diesel fuel of Euro-4.

Construction of the complex is scheduled for 2009-2013.
