Turkmenistan to play key-role in world energy arena: head of Eni

Turkmenistan has huge potential in terms of exploration and production of oil and will play a key-role in the world energy arena in the near future, the Head of the Italian Eni, Paolo Scaroni said on Nov. 2, the company reported.

Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni met in Ashgabat with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimukhamedov.

Eni, being one of the world's biggest international energy companies, with excellent technical and operational capabilities, will significantly contribute to the economic and social development of Turkmenistan, the company released.

Eni started its activities in Turkmenistan in 2008 with the purchase of British company Burren Energy plc.

Activities are focused in the western part of the country over an area of 200 square km, which are split into four development areas.

Eni has recently expressed its interest in a long-term format in the project on transportation of hydrocarbons from the Caspian region to Pakistan and India.
