In 2009 Baku International Trade Port ships over 2mln tons of oil cargo

In 2009, the Baku International Sea Trade Port shipped about 2.5 million tons of oil cargo, which is lower by 10 percent compared to the index in 2008, a source in Baku port said.

"In 2009, the port shipped about 2.5 million tons of oil cargo, which is slightly lower compared to 2008," the source added.

According to the source, in 2009, the port shipped 5.1 million tons of cargo, which is also slightly lower compared to 2008.

The port recorded 10-percent increase in shipment of cargo ferry. The volume of cargo ferry amounted to 2.3 million tons. Also in relation to 2008, last year the port doubled transshipment of dry cargo up to 300,000 tons.

In 2008, the Baku port was handled about six million tons of various cargoes. From the total volume of the shipped cargo in 2008, about three million ton fell to petroleum and petroleum products, and the remaining three million tons of cargo fell to ferry communication (Baku-Turmenbashi, Turkmenbashi-Baku, Baku-Aktau-Baku and Aktau).
