In 2009 cargo transportation decreases in Georgia

In 2009, the Georgian transport sector carried 45.3 million tons of cargo compared to 49 million tons in 2008, the Georgia government reported.

According to the government, in 2009, the country transported 17.1 million tons of cargo via the railway compared to 21.2 million tons in 2008. Of the total volume of cargo transported by the railway 9.7 million tons fell to liquid cargo (in 2008 this figure amounted to - 10 million tons).

The volume of cargo transported via the cars hit 28.2 million tons compared to 27.8 million tons in 2008.

The volume of cargo transported via air was 12.2 million tons compared to 17 million tons in 2008.

The volume of passenger transport by railway amounted to 3.1 million compared to 3.4 million in 2008. About 309.5 million people were transported via cars compared to 301.4 million in 2008 and 772,000 by air transported compared to 804,000 in 2008.
