SOCAR's OGPU ups oil production in Jan.

In January 2010, the Oil and Gas Production Union (OGPU) of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) extracted about 4.6 million barrels of oil (about 624.6 million tons) from the country's offshore and onshore fields, SOCAR said. The figure was 4.55mln barrels (619.3 million tons) in January 2009.

About 1.1 million barrels fell to share of SOCAR in joint projects with foreign companies. Some 190,000 barrels of this figure fells to the operating companies, more than 851,000 barrels- the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field and about 16,000 tons of gas condensate to the Shah Deniz field.

In January 2010, SOCAR received about 669 million cubic meters of gas compared to 700mln cu m in January 2009. During this period, SOCAR's OGPU extracted about 610 million cubic meters of gas. Joint ventures and operating companies producing gas from the onshore fields transferred to SOCAR about 5.1 million cubic meters of gas in January 2010.

In January, the Azerbaijani International Operating Company (AIOC) produced about 250.1 million cubic meters of associated gas from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields for SOCAR.

Azerbaijan has 57 oil and gas fields, of 18which are offshore and the rest-onshore.
