Turkmen delegation to discuss fuel and energy cooperation in Iran

A Turkmen delegation headed by Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov will discuss a bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sphere today in Tehran.

A Turkmen delegation headed by Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov will discuss a bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sphere today in Tehran.

According to the official Turkmen source, the talks were scheduled for July 20 under the leadership of Baymyrat Hojamuhammedov, who is responsible for fuel and energy complex. However, due to his health conditions his duties are assigned to The State Agency for Management and Hydrocarbon Resources Use Director Yagshigeldi Kakayev.

The Turkmen President said at the last governmental meeting that "Turkmenistan is successfully fulfills strategy of energy supplies diversification, in every was strives for expansion mutually beneficial partnership with all interested countries, including neighbor countries, in particular with Iran, which is Turkmenistan's long-term and reliable partner in oil and gas sphere."

Despite the fact that Iran is the world energy power (second in the world for natural gas reserves), this country becomes an important importer of this fuel in the Caspian region. And Turkmenistan drastically developes close market, providing Iran's neighboring provinces with this fuel.

Iran purchases the Turkmen gas via two gas pipelines and intends to increase their amount to provide its neighboring provinces with about 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Iran also offers to use its territories as transit to transport the Turkmen gas to Turkey and Europe.

Besides, Tehran has repeatedly stated about its interest to participate in the development of the largest field "South Eloten". In the first phase, companies from South Korea, UAE received contract orders.
