Iran traded 1,668 MW of electricity with neighbouring countries on March 29

Iran traded 1,668 megawatts (MW) of electricity with neighboring countries on March 29, the IRNA News Agency reported.

Iran exported 1,228 MW of electricity to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia, and Turkey.

The country also imported 440 MW of electricity from Armenia and Turkmenistan on the same day.

Iran traded over 10 GW of electricity with its neighboring countries during the first six days of the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21.

Iran exported 7.857 GW of electricity and imported 2.182 GW of electricity during the 6-day period.

According to the deputy energy minister Mohammad Behzad, the number of power plants constructed in Iran during the last decade is twice more than the world average, Mehr News Agency reports.

Annual power production capacity growth constituted 7 percent during the last 10 years compared to the world average of 3.5 percent, Behzad said.

The country's power generation capacity is currently 68.38 GW, he added.

Iran currently trades power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.

Iran is trying to become a major regional electricity exporter and has attracted more than $1.1 billion investments for construction of three new power plants.
