Kazakhstan, Astana, June 13 / Trend D.Mukhtarov /

Kazakhstani MP Zhambyl Ahmetbekov has asked the government to explain the cause of the cessation of construction of the West-North-Centre pipeline.

"We are asking the government to clarify the situation regarding the stopping of the development of construction of the West-North-Centre gas pipeline," Zhambyl Ahmetbekov said.

According to Ahmetbekov, despite the fact the project is now completely readyand that more than five billion Kazakhstani tenge was spent for its preparation, the Interdepartmental Commission on the issues of the development of the oil and gas and energy sector under the government of Kazakhstan did, without giving any explanation, suspend the implementation of the construction of gas pipeline West-North-Centre project by its protocol decision, dated 19 April 2013.

The People's Communists faction supposes that the commission's decision may in the future lead to lost time which will disrupt the planned governmental programmes, plans and concepts for the development of the Northern and Central regional economy of the country," Ahmetbekov said.

It should be remembered that in 2010 the president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev gave specific instructions on the beginning of the construction of West-North-Centre gas pipeline by 2013.

The construction of the gas pipeline will make it possible to supply blue fuel to more than 400 settlements where more than 1.5 million people live and to provide more than 300 people with jobs at the gas pipeline facilities.
