Construction of the port is one of the rapidly implemented projects in Turkey, head of SOCAR Turkey Enerji, a board member of Petkim Petrochemical Holding Kenan Yavuz told Trend.

According to him, agreement was reached with the Danish and Dutch companies on the construction of a new port.

The head of SOCAR Turkey Enerji stressed that the port will belong to Turkey, but the Danish and Dutch companies will operate the port for 30 years.

It is expected that construction of the port will be completed in 2015, and the project will cost $ 400 million, he said.

Earlier, Turkish petrochemical complex Petkim has signed an agreement with Dutch company APM Terminals on construction of a container port with the capacity of 1.5 million TEU.

Investment in the construction of the new port will be completed in 2014. During the management of the port by APM Terminals its capacity will exceed the capacity of the port Aslandzhak by about 50 percent. Depending on the needs of the market, its capacity will be increased to three million TEU.

APM Terminals Company will have the right to manage the port during 28 years. Until 2014 the volume of investments in the development of the terminal will be $350-400 million.

Yavuz also said that the second project is also included in the list of rapidly implemented projects and it is the construction of Star refinery. Acording to him, construction of the plant should be completed in late 2017.

According to the head of SOCAR Turkey Enerji, currently there are four refineries in Turkey, all of which were built by the state.

"The difference of our refineries is that investments have been made in one part of the region" Yavuz said.

He added that the cost of refinery construction is $5.5 billion, and it is expected that the plant will produce 10 million tons of oil products a year.

"Of the 10 million tons of oil products, three million tons will be consumed by Petkim, and the rest will be sold to other countries," he said.

According to him, the other actively implementing project is the construction of the power plant.

The cost of Star refinery construction is forecasted at $5 billion.

Star refinery's processing capacity will equal 10 million tons of oil and capable of processing such oil grades as Azeri Light, Kirkuk and Urals. Annual production at the refinery will equal 1.6 million tons of naphtha which will reduce Petkim's dependence on imports of this type of oil product to zero, he said.

Along with naphtha, the Star refinery will also produce 5.9 million tons of diesel fuel with ultra-low sulphur, 500,000 tons of aviation fuel, 630,000 tons of petroleum coke, 240,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas, 415,000 tons of mixed xylenes, 75,000 tons of olefin liquefied petroleum gas and 145,000 tons of sulphur.

The total capacity of the refinery Star will comprise 10 million tons and petroleum products manufactured at the plant will be aimed at meeting the needs of the Petkim chemical concern and the domestic market of Turkey.
