The studies over Iran-Oman gas pipeline will be completed by August 2016, Iranian top official said.

Iran and Oman started studying the future onshore route of the pipeline two months ago and the studies over underwater section would be completed by August, Shana quoted the Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC) Alireza Kameli as saying on Feb.24.

He said that discussion over the details of laying pipes would start as soon as the studies are complete.

Based on an agreement signed between Tehran-Muscat in 2013, Iran will export 28 million cubic meters of gas to Oman per day via a sub-sea pipeline within 15 years.

Kameli also said on Feb.21 that Iran can use about 2.5 to 3 million tons of vacant LNG producing capacity of Oman to export its natural gas.

Oman has 10.4 million tons LNG production capacity annually, however, according to the Oman LNG Company's latest statistics, it produces around 7.5 million LNG during 2014.
