By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

Germany's AE Solar company shipped the first batch of solar panels manufactured at a plant in Georgian Kutaisi to the United States, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.

Since May 2019, AE Solar has been operating in the Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) of Kutaisi, which is managed by China's Hualing Group. The plant is located on an area of 16,000 square meters and is equipped with automatic robotic convectors, which makes it possible to manufacture products with a capacity of 500 MW per year.

According to the ministry of economy, the German company has already invested $10 million in the production of solar panels in Georgia. At this stage, 140 people are employed at the AE Solar plant. By the end of the year, the company plans to increase production capacity by three times and hire another 160 employees.

Minister of Economy Natia Turnava visited the FIZ on May 30.

“The company's products are supplied to Europe, to the countries of the region, and now to the US. We will do our best to ensure that, despite the pandemic and the global economic crisis, they do not change their plans. It is very important that they plan to expand operations. This is one of the components of our economic recovery in 2021,” said Turnava.

AE Solar is one of the leading companies in the renewable energy industry, founded in Germany in 2003. The company is engaged in the production and supply of equipment worldwide.

The Chinese company Hualing Group is implementing projects in various cities of Georgia, including the Free Industrial Zone of Kutaisi.

A memorandum on the creation of 36-ha Free Industrial Zone was signed between Hualing Group and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia in 2009.
