Electricity imports into Georgia increased by 93 percent in 1Q2021 year-on-year amounting to 1.43 billion KWH, Trend reports via the Georgian Energy Market Operator (ESCO).
The main reason for the increase in imports was the halt of the country's largest Enguri HPP. Some 41 percent of consumed electricity was imported form abroad.
The largest volume of imports was made from Russia. In particular, the volume of purchased electricity from Russia amounted to 863 million KWH, the volume of Azerbaijan electricity – 463 million KWH and the volume of electricity imported from Turkey amounted to 111 million KWH.
As for the electricity consumption, it was up by 3.3 percent amounting to 3.47 billion KWH. Telasi customers consumed 722 million KWH, while subscribers of Energo-Pro Georgia – 1.14 billion KWH.
