Oil&Gas Materials 8 February 2006 17:44 (UTC +04:00)

Georgia stopped importing natural gas from Iran by transit via Azerbaijan, the Azerigaz Joint Stock Company (JSC) told Trend . Halting of supplies is explained by the Georgian side by the fact, that the gas needed for Georgia is constantly delivered by Russia now.

The gas from Iran per 2 million cubic meters a day came to Georgia since 30 January. As the Azerigaz spokesmen noted, it was to be supplied during 15 days by the accord between Georgia and Iran. And Azerbaijan was to receive the transit fees. However, all in all, 10 million cubic meters of gas have been delivered.

Decision of Georgia to import gas from Iran was taken in regard to termination of fuel supplies from Russia due to the damage on the gas pipeline linking Georgia with Russia.
