USA Stands for Increasing Turkish Gas Share Produced from an Azerbaijani Condensate Field

Georgia, Tbilisi / Trend , corr. N. Kirtskhalia/ Jeffrey Cell, the Deputy U. S. Energy Minister, stands for increasing the Turkish share of gas produced from an Azerbaijani gas condensate field, "Shah-Daniz".

" Georgia's share of gas produced from this field should grow, and the Georgian Government is taking active steps in this issue," said Mr. Cell at the end of the meeting with Nino Burdjanadze, Georgia's Speaker, Trend Correspondent to Tbilisi reports.

He considers that gas supplies from the Shah-Daniz Field may become a substantial part in the issue on ensuring the energy security of Georgia.

The American top official stressed that it is necessary for Georgia to expand its transit functions and increase local deliveries in order to ensure the energy security of the country.

Mr. Cell said marked the importance of guaranteeing the energy security, since, in his mind, that is one of guarantees of the independence of the country.

As Mr. Cell said during the meeting with Mrs. Burdjanadze, the parties had paid much attention to issues connected with reforms carried out in Georgia, which have a positive effect on the development of the economy of the country and investment atmosphere in Georgia.

The Georgian Speaker emphasized that the region had a great perspective in the issue of supplying energy carriers to Europe.

"We may play an important role in the issue of ensuring the diversification of energy carriers supplies to Europe," stressed Mrs. Burdjanadze.

"The region is filled with different resources. The international demand on energy is high. The need in energy is gradually increasing, and we may lay new pipelines to supply oil and gas," said the Georgian Speaker, and stressed that USA should more actively further appearing new energy corridors in the region.

The Speaker also said that everybody paid much attention to the issues connected with energy security, and that just this security was one of the grounds of the guarantee of security of this or that countryс. In addition, Mr. Burdjanadze added that the American support in this issue was of a great importance to her country.
