The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated financial assistance to the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) countries, as well as to the Caucasus countries, to support urgent responses to the coronavirus pandemic, Trend reports citing the ADB.

According to the report, this support program will be implemented in Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and other countries.

“The cost of the technical support program is $3.9 million. Of these, $3 million will be allocated by a special technical assistance fund of the ADB in the form of a grant, $500,000 – by the Fund for Regional Cooperation and Integration, $400,000 - by the Fund for Poverty Reduction and Regional Cooperation of China,” said the ADB.

“ADB will manage the technical assistance program and become the executive body. The program implementation period will begin in July 2020 and will last until July 2023,” the report noted.

“This technical assistance will enhance regional health cooperation among CAREC member countries as well as in the Caucasus. The support will facilitate regional policy dialogue, exchange of knowledge and skills, and a more coordinated approach to common problems and challenges faced by the health system,” the ADB added.

In particular, technical assistance support will contribute to innovative solutions in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), said the report.
