( Laptop ) - Sony Ericsson just announced that the first shipments of the W960 Walkman phone will ship starting today, to reach stores sometime soon this month.
It utilizes UMTS technology, which is trying to get coined as 3GSM, as a reference to both 3G, and GSM, the technology it's hoping to succeed.
Coupled with WiFi, you can expect this phone to make an impact on an already bloated handset market. You say the W960 first in June, and it's planned from the start as a media player. Expect to hold up to 8,000 songs accessible from a 2.6" touchscreen. The display also connects to a 3.2 megapixel camera and you can flip the phone sideways for widescreen video.
Only one color is offered in the initial release, Vinyl Black. Which is black, only more music-y.
