Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 January / Trend corr. S. Babayeva/ In 2008, the limits on the local telephone talks will not be introduced in Azerbaijan, Ali Abbasov, the minister of communication and information technology of Azerbaijan, said.

"The limits are introduced all over the world. We have already worked out own proposals in this regard as well. Our chief aim is to effectively use the telephone network," minister stated.

"The introduction of the limits is not viewed yet. The limits can be introduced only after taking into account the interests of the poor," Abbasov said.

As to the tariffs on service payments for the telephone talks, the minister said that there will be no rise this year; on the contrary, measures will be taken to lower the internet tariffs.

The Ministry of Communication and IT Technology of Azerbaijan proposed to introduce the limits to the intercity calls in the country, last year. However, the Tariff Council considered the introduction of the limits inopportune.

Instead of that, the new tariffs on the telephone talks took into the effect from 1 June of 2007, which were announced by the Tariff Council on 17 May. In accordance with the decision, the monthly service payments on the telephone talks inside the country were increased to AZN 2 from AZN 0.7. The Ministry of Communication and IT Technology of Azerbaijan itself assess the prime cost of every stationary telephone at AZN 3.
