Tehran interested in opening flights to Ashgabat

A number of proposals on strengthening transport relations between Turkmenistan and Iran were voiced during the meeting of a joint intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation in Tehran, Nebit-Gaz, a Turkmen online newspaper, reported May 15.

At the meeting with participation of Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Abbas Akhoundi, the Iranian side proposed to open a direct flight on the Tehran-Ashgabat and Mashhad-Ashgabat routes.

The delegation of Turkmenistan was headed by Turkmen foreign minister, Deputy Prime Minister Rashid Meredov.

Particular attention was also paid to the interaction of Turkmenistan and Iran in the projects on international corridors.

Akhoundi said Iran hopes for expansion of the activity of the Central Asian railway corridor with the assistance of Turkmenistan and the participation of China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its message that an exchange of views took place in Tehran on the potential to increase the mutual trade turnover and efficiently use the opportunities for cross-border trade.

Iran is the third biggest foreign trade partner of Turkmenistan.
