Kazakhstan to build solar, wind energy plants

Six power plants working on solar and wind energy will be constructed in the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan.

All six stations should be launched by the end of 2020, the press service of the region's administration said in a message. The construction of a solar power station in Sarani has already started.

The projects will be financed through private sector, while 163 billion tenge will be spent for construction and commissioning.

The construction of a solar power station in Sarani was launched in June 2017. With a capacity of 100 MW, the plant generate 145 million kW of energy a year and will be the largest in Central Asia.

Another solar power plant should appear in the Shetsky district, near the village of Agadyr. The plant with a capacity of 50 MW will be built at the expense of KazSolar LLP.

In the Aktogay district, KPM-Delta LLP will build a solar power plant with a capacity of 40 MW.

A new power plant operating on wind power with a capacity of 10 MW will appear in the Osakarovsky district. Another 10 MW wind farm will be built in Karkaralinsk.

In Abay region "Agrofirma Kurma" LLP will build a biogas plant with a capacity of 1 MW.

The power generated by these stations is planned to be purchased centrally by the Ministry of Energy at a price of 32-36 tenge per kilowatt. Then it will be distributed over the networks of the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC).

Consumers will get energy at tariffs set in the regions. In Karaganda it is 10-11 tenge per kilowatt.

The official exchange rate for November 3 is 335.15 KZT / USD.
