New Parliament of Turkmenistan to adhere to President Berdimuhammadov’s policy
Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Dec. 14 /corr. Trend E.Hasanov / The new Parliament of Turkmenistan will adhere to President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammadov's policy. Today more than 2.5mln citizens of Turkmenistan, almost 94 percent of the total number of voters, voted for the candidates to the Parliament, their names will be published on the pages of the local newspapers within ten days.
Some 288 candidates competed for 125 mandates - they have similar political views, almost they all belong to the only registered Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, chairman of which is the President of the country, Gurbangulu Berdimuhammadov. At the same time, the Turkmen Head is the founder of entire press, who is commander-in-chief and heads the government.
"The parliamentary elections convincingly demonstrated to world community the inviolable solidarity and civil maturity of contemporary Turkmen society, which confidently follows the way of democratic changes," national news service of Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlari (State news) reported after completion of voting today. News agency reports that the complete monitoring of all stages of the election process at the places was realized both by the national observers and more than 40 foreign observers, who represent the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, national parliaments and diplomatic missions of the CIS states. "They highly assessed the elections, which were distinguished for the high activity of population, wide alternating character, and also full transparency and clearness," Turkmen TV reported.
It was reported that the observers also assessed the high level of the organization of the elections, which took place with a strict observance of the legislation acting in the country and international norms, which provided an opportunity to the voters to entirely realize their constitutional right. As compared to his predecessor Saparmurat Niyazov, who passed away in December 2006, the acting President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammadov proclaimed the policy "open doors", market relations, returned valuable education to young people, pension to elderly, promised to ensure all schools with the access to worldwide web.
