Grandiose construction project implementation of the artificial water reservoir - Altyn Asyr (Golden Age) Lake in the heart of great Garagum desert continues in Turkmenistan, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.
"Foreign scientists called this hydrotechnical project a sample of the state concern about health of population, about environment and wonderful example of rational use of water resources," said the article.
Staff of the Turkmen State Scientific Production and Planning Economic Institute (Turkmensuwylymtaslama) of the Ministry of Water Economy of Turkmenistan worked out a program of research events intended for five years in accordance with the state program adopted in 2014.
The scientists consider particularly prospective the researches related to the potential of the lake for development of pasture management, fish breeding with desalinated water, cattle-breeding, halophytic plant growing (sectors, engaging in study and cultivation of plants, growing in conditions of high salinity), recreational sphere of services, tourism, said the newspaper.
The article also said that scientists and experts have studied the collectors' area of Altyn Asyr Lake in order to develop evidence-based recommendations on the inclusion of collector and drain water in water management turnover of the national economy, as well as re-using them.
The Neutral Turkmenistan draws attention to the fact that it is difficult to obtain high yields and shoots at the saline lands, and so far the only effective means of reducing the amount of salt in the root zone of soil to acceptable values is washing of lands with fresh water and the necessary drainage.
Water is also essential for irrigation of the first landscaping lands won from the desert. Therefore, one of important issues of the scientific researches of the Institute is the possibility of purification and desalination of water on the basis of small portable electrodialysis and reverse-osmosis desalination plants, which can be used in such conditions.
Moreover, the specialists of the Institute will take part in planned events on creation of single managerial center with automated electronic data gathering from water-metering posts in Garagum River.
