Uzbekistan intends to increase efficiency of public administration

Uzbek President Islam Karimov instructed the Cabinet to establish a special commission to develop a program of measures to reform and improve the efficiency of public administration, a government source told Trend.

The program will be worked out to develop system of the state bodies in the general structure of the concept of deepening democratic reforms and the formation of civil society in the country proposed by the president, the source said.

The document must be submitted to the president in October.

Earlier this year, the country's leadership has taken several measures to improve the efficiency of public authorities. In particular, the number of administrative personnel of national government bodies, and their territorial jurisdiction of the structures was reduced by five percent.

In total, 1153 regular units of managerial staff of public authorities was reduced, including 64 - in the central offices, 206 - in regional units, 629 - in the district units, and 254 - in subordinate organizations.

Reductions mostly affected the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management (365), the Ministry of Finance (271), the Ministry of Economy (83), the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (209), extra-budgetary Pension Fund (45).

As a result, the maximum number of employees of managerial staff of ministries and departments, and their territorial jurisdiction of the structures financed from the budget, amounted to 20,049 units, compared to 21,202.
