Iran 's permanent envoy to the U.N. has visited Egypt.
It is the first time an Iranian official has visited Cairo after former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's overthrow, the IRNA news agency reported.
The IRNA did not report the purpose of Mohammad Khazaie 's visit, but he plans to meet with Egyptian officials and to attend a meeting.
The two countries' officials recently made statements about the restoration of diplomatic ties after 31 years.
Earlier, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the strong perspectives of Iranian-Egyptian relations are obvious and positive.
He also said at a press conference on April 4 that Iran wants to strengthen its relations with all peoples in the region, except Israel.
Diplomatic ties between Iran and Egypt were severed in 1979.
