The Iranian navy commander Habibollah Sayyari said that the country has sent warships to the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden to counter probable pirate attacks.
"The Islamic Republic's 18th fleet and its different destroyers have been deployed in open seas to counter attacks by pirates," Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari told Mehr News Agency.
The Iranian warships started mission in open seas in 2008 and battled with more than 100 pirates in open seas since then.
