The conference on Syrian conflict has begun in Tehran today, PRESS TV channel reported live.

Earlier Iran has called for a ministerial meeting for the states that have taken a "realistic and principle" stance on the Syrian crisis, and announced that it is expecting the participation of 10 countries in the meeting.

In reality, representatives of 30 countries, instead of 10 are participating in the meeting.

Representative of the hosting country, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran supports UN's stance on Syria, and added that Iran is committed to establishing peace in Syria.

Salehi also thanked UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon for sending his envoy to the meeting.

UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon has been invited to the conference by Iran, however he was not present, instead sending a letter, that was read out to the participants.

In his letter, Moon thanked Iran for hosting such conference, and urged for the violence in Syria to stop.

"Both sides continue to rely on weapons in Syria, instead of diplomacy," Moon's letter said. "We are facing a possibility of a civil war in Syria, and this can affect both the people of Syria and the situation in the region as a whole".

After the letter was read out, Iran's FM said the meeting will continue behind closed doors.
