Consultations on the Iranian nuclear program with EU high representative Catherine Ashton have helped bring Iran and the EU closer this week, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said at a press conference today, IRINN reported.

"Our meeting has contributed to the rapprochement of positions of the two sides," Jalili said.

Ashton's meeting with Jalili was held in Istanbul on September 17.

Jalili said that in general, the talks were constructive.

Jalili said that a decision was made during the meeting that Ashton will inform all the countries of the "Six" about the results of this meeting. The joint positions of "Six" and Iran will be determined to discuss them in the next round of negotiations.

The participants of the previous, third round of "six" on the Iranian nuclear program, which took place in Moscow on June 18 - 19, agreed to continue the dialogue. The Moscow round was preceded by Istanbul (April 14) and Baghdad (May 23-24). Earlier, the talks of "six" and Iran were not conducted over a year.

There are four sanction resolutions of the UN Security Council against Iran. Moreover, several countries and organizations unilaterally adopted different resolutions urging Iran to ensure full transparency of its nuclear program.
