Iran's Supreme Audit Court will investigate the financial discrepancies of former President Mahmoud Amadinejad, the Tasnim News Agency quoted prosecutor Fayyaz Shojaei as saying.

Ahmadinejad deposited 160 billion rials about $6.5 million based on the US dollar exchange rate of 24,900 rials, into a joint account in favour of himself and his aide Hamid Baqaei on the last day of his incumbency.

The sum had been drawn out the administration's account, Shojaei said, adding that the Supreme Audit Court has returned the sum to the administration's coffers.

It had been reported that the sum will be used to establish a university under the management of Ahmadinejad.

Meanwhile, MP Mostafa Afzalifard has said that the act of Ahmadinejad is legally pursuable and the case has been referred to related legal bodies.
