Obama: Tough talk "not the right thing" on Iran

US President Barack Obama on Monday said the international community must engage in diplomacy and refrain from "tough talk" in the coming months to reach a comprehensive deal with Iran over its nuclear programme, dpa reported.

"Huge challenges remain. But we cannot close the door on diplomacy, and we cannot rule out peaceful solutions to the world's problems," Obama said at an event in San Francisco.

"We cannot commit ourselves to an endless cycle of conflict. And tough talk and bluster may be the easy thing to do politically, but it's not the right thing for our security."

Obama praised existing sanctions for bringing Iran to the table for talks that resulted over the weekend in an interim deal, which has been condemned by Israel and criticized by many US lawmakers.
