The assumptions made about the legal status of the Caspian Sea are incorrect, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi told IRNA, Trend reports.
According to him, there have been no recent changes with regards to the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
Mousavi added that the negotiations between the Caspian littoral states have so far tackled major issues, and no agreement has been reached on the legal status of the sea and the separation of the sea surface and the seabed.
“First of all, the discussions on ways the baseline may be drawn must reach a conclusion, and the legal status of the Caspian Sea should be regulated on the basis of a five-party agreement,” he said.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that a draft of the corresponding project will be submitted to the Iranian parliament for approval.
