Transit of goods via Iran exceeds 4.35M tons

Over 4.35 million metric tons of goods were transited through Iran in the first four months of the current calendar year (March 21 - July 22).

About 2.206 million metric tons of transited goods were oil products and the rest were non-oil products, the website of Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported on August 9.

Some 977,351 metric tons of goods were transited in the fourth fiscal month of Tir (June 22-July 22).

The transited consignments are mostly consisted of fuel, construction materials, cotton, home appliances, vehicles, foodstuff and fertilizers.

Iraq, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates were the main sources of transit, while the United Arab Emirates and Turkmenistan were the main destinations.

Over 12.084 million metric tons of goods were transited through Iran in the previous Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20).

The amount shows 4 percent increase compared to last year.

Some 96 percent of the mentioned amount (11.59 million metric tons) was transited via roads and the other 4 percent (494,000 metric tons) by railways.
