Within the coming weeks, Iran and South Korea are expected to sign an agreement on manufacturing railbuses to serve public transportation in suburban areas of the Islamic Republic, an official with the Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran (RAI) told Trend.

Nourollah Beiranvand, the deputy for planning and investment at RAI, has said that deal for providing the Iranian railways fleet with 150 railbus sets worth about 800 million euros is expected to be signed soon.

He added that each railbus set includes four carriages and the Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Eximbank) will open LC to finance the deal.

About 1.2 million individuals commute between capital Tehran and the surrounding cities on a daily basis.

Iranian officials earlier said that currently, the railway has a two-percent share in the transportation of commuters between Tehran and its suburbs. The figure is projected to reach 20 percent in future.
