Iran improves safety of passenger ports - PMO

The Director-General of Ports and Maritime Organization of Hormozgan Province said firefighting projects will be implemented in Shahid Haqqani and Hormoz ports in order to increase the safety of passenger ports.

“In order to improve the safety level of passenger ports and to prevent harmful accidents in maritime terminals, the firefighting project will be implemented simultaneously in the two passenger ports of Shahid Haqqani of Bandar Abbas and Hormoz in accordance with the international standards,” Alireza Mohammadi Karajiran the head of Hormozgan Province's PMO said, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

Referring to the cost of this project he says that over $7.1 million allocated to the safety improvement project, which includes installing 2400 meters of steel and polyethylene pipes, installation of two submersible pumping stations, installation of 8 pumps as well as 54 pieces of firefighting equipment.

Karajiran said that the most important goals of the firefighting system project are to ensure the safety of the yards and docks, to prevent human and financial damages.

“Shahid Haqqani port is the largest sea passenger terminal port in Iran, through which thousands of passengers and tourists are transferred daily to the islands of Hormoz,” he added.
