Energy Minister, Polytechnic Institute rector fired in Turkmenistan over road accident involving senior officials' children

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday dismissed Energy and Industry minister Yarmuhammet Orazgulyev and Turkmen Polytechnic Institute rector Khidir Saparliyev over road accident involving children of senior officials, national TV channel Altin Asir reported.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday dismissed Energy and Industry minister Yarmuhammet Orazgulyev and Turkmen Polytechnic Institute rector Khidir Saparliyev over road accident involving children of senior officials, national TV channel Altin Asir reported.

At a government meeting interior minister Isgender Mulikov made a report on "a traffic accident involving children of senior officials, which led to serious consequences."

Berdymukhamedov said that such incidents are unacceptable.

"In our law-governed state no one will be allowed to behave inappropriately, and in case this situation happens again, very strict measures will be applied against respective officials", he said.

The President noted that the perpetrators of the accident were students of the Turkmen Polytechnic Institute. In this connection, he severely reprimanded the Education Minister Gulshat Mammedova and her deputy Geldimyrat Dzhumagulyev. In addition, Saparliyev was dismissed as rector of the Polytechnic Institute, with former rector of the Turkmen State Institute of Transport and Communications Meret Ashyrbaev being appointed in his place.

In connection with this accident Berdimuhamedov also dismissed Orazgulyev as Energy and Industry Minister and appointed the deputy minister, Myrat Artikov to this post.
