U.S. Military Official visits Georgia

( Civil Georgia ) - General Tom Hobbins, U.S. Air Forces in Europe commander, will visit Georgia on May 15-16.

General Hobbins will meet with Georgian counterparts to explore how U.S. Air Force Europe can further support the Georgian armed forces' contribution to Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi.

The U.S. Air Force has personnel at the Krtsanisi Training Area near Tbilisi as part of the U.S.-funded Georgia Sustainment and Stability Operations Program (GSSOP II) which is training the Georgian army for operations in Iraq.

Meanwhile, U.S. General David Poythress, commander of the National Guard in the U.S. state of Georgia, concludes his six-day visit to Tbilisi on May 15. He met with Georgian Defense Minister Davit Kezerashvili and Chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces Col. Zaza Gogava on May 14, according to the Defense Ministry.
