Dialogue between religions is very important, especially after the spread of the erroneous opinion about Islam in the Western world as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said to press briefing.

According to him, the dialogue between religions should be conducted to achieve a particular purpose, and an action plan must be devised for this. The dialogue should not be theological and must be conducted at the level of nations," said Ihsanoglu.

The differences between religions began after the policy intervened in the relations between religions, outside influence began, he said. According to the Secretary General, in the dialogue of civilizations it is very important to respect human rights and respect other peoples and religions.

An international conference "Dialogue between civilizations: A View from Azerbaijan", organized by the Diplomatic Academy of Azerbaijan and the General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, started in Baku on Nov. 11.

The conference brings together about 200 scientists from 41 countries and three international organizations, as well as representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan. The conference discussed the religious and cultural differences, the experience of Azerbaijan in interreligious dialogue, the problems in this field, Islamic geopolitics.

On the second day of the conference, a public television forum will be held with the participation of foreign guests on "Interfaith Dialogue. Ihsanoglu said that the turnover has increased between the member countries of OIC. The OIC is the only organization whose members unanimously supported Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
