( AFP ) - Police searching for a gunman who killed two people at a gym in western Japan said Saturday they had found a man's body and were investigating whether he was behind the deaths.

Masayoshi Magome, 37, was found lying dead in a pool of blood next to a shotgun, police said Saturday, a day after the shooting spree.

"A body of a male was found early this morning, bleeding with a shot gun that was found near his body. It is possible that he killed himself," said a police official.

"Police are investigating whether he is related to the shooting based on the autopsy and testimonies from witnesses."

A 25-year-old female swimming instructor and a 36-year-old fisherman were killed and six people including three young girls were wounded when the gunman seized the gym. He briefly took some 10 people hostage before fleeing the scene.

Police suspect Magome had a grudge against one of his victims, Kyodo News reported.
