( dpa ) - Giovanni De Biasi announced on Wednesday evening that he was quitting as coach of Spanish club Levante in order to take over at Torino.

De Biasi has been in charge at Levante for five months, but has failed to improve their results.

They are rock bottom of La Liga with just 22 points from 32 games, and doomed to relegation.

Torino, who have just axed Walter Novellino, are 14th in the Serie A, and are hoping that De Biasi will keep them above the relegation zone.

"I'm really sorry to have to leave Levante like this," De Biasi told the Italian media on Wednesday evening.

"But this is too important an opportunity in my professional life," he added.

De Biasi was previously coach of Torino from 2005 to 2007.
