Three missing discovered dead after weekend Swiss avalanche

Three missing people were discovered dead Tuesday, buried in a Swiss Alpine avalanche that had already claimed four lives on Sunday, DPA reported.

The three ski trekkers were discovered around midday Wednesday by rescue crews, though it remained unclear if their bodies had been dug out yet.

Sunday's avalanche immediately killed one ski trekker, and then another three who were trying to dig him out. Four people remain hospitalized from injuries sustained from the avalanche.

It is the highest death count from an avalanche in Switzerland since 1999 when 12 people were killed by twin avalanches in Evolene.
