Hurricane Alex has strengthened into a Category 2 storm and is near landfall in north Mexico in a few hours, the U.S. National Hurricane Center warned on Wednesday.

Hurricane Alex has strengthened into a Category 2 storm and is near landfall in north Mexico in a few hours, the U.S. National Hurricane Center warned on Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
  
Right now(Wednesday evening, the center of Alex was located 105 miles (169 km) to the south of Brownsville, Texas and 55 miles (88 km) to the northeast of La Pesca, Mexico, according to the center.
  
Alex continues to strengthen and winds are now at 100 miles (161 km) per hour. Forecasters believe that some additional strengthening is possible before Alex makes landfall Wednesday night south of the Rio Grande River in northeast Mexico.
  
After slowing down Tuesday night, Alex has really picked up steam moving off to the west. On its current path, Alex hurricane warnings are now in effect from Baffin Bay, Texas south to La Cruz, Mexico north.
