American Michael Phelps cemented his Olympic immortality on Thursday when he became the first male swimmer to win three straight golds in one discipline, in the 200 metres medley, dpa reported.
Phelps clocked 1 minute 54.27 seconds with American rival Ryan Lochte on silver in 1:54.90 and Hungary's Laszlo Cseh getting bronze in 1:56.22.
Phelps raised his record as the best decorated modern Olympian to 16 gold two silver and two bronze.
