At least nine people were killed in Pakistsan Friday, officials and emergency services said, as violent street protests took place in various major cities in responsse to a US-made anti-Islam film, reported dpa.
Five people, including a police officer, were killed in Karachi, the country's commercial hub.
Four others, including an employee of ARY News broadcaster, died in Peshwari.
Protests in the capital, Islamabad, saw riot police subdue angry crowds using tear gas and live ammunition. At least 40 people were injured, but there no initial reports of any fatalities.
Protesters made attempts to reach the US missions in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, but were pushed back by security forces.
